We cannot emphasize it enough because the recent events in the 94th House District race have clearly demonstrated that every vote counts and YOUR vote could be the deciding factor not only in who wins the election, but which party controls a city council, House of Delegates or Senate.
In this hotly contested campaign, the court has decided that it is a dead-even race and the winner will be drawn by lot in accordance with state law. This is a powerful statement to a single voter taking the time to exercise their right to choose the leadership under which they will live. One person voting for either candidate could have decided the entire election. Many of our members throughout the Second Congressional District have seen elections won by 11, 12 or 16 votes and this is why as election day approaches, both parties ramp up their get-out-the-vote efforts in order to reach as many voters as possible.
As recently as this evening (12/26/2017), the Democratic candidate has asked a court to forego the random drawing and declare her the winner. One or two more voters turning out could have decided this race instead of taking the matter to court where half of the people involved will leave unhappy with the outcome.
Now is the time to ask yourself, “Am I registered to vote?” The Commonwealth of Virginia makes it easier than ever to cast your ballot and you have legal rights to assure that you will not be harassed, intimidated or otherwise discouraged from casting your ballot for the candidate of your choice in a free and fair election.
